You can continue using Sparks Scribe
You may have heard about new Australian privacy requirements starting on 10 December 2026.
This change does not introduce a blanket ban on AI or shift-note software. There is no requirement to stop using Sparks Scribe because of it.
What is changing?
The new requirements concern privacy-policy transparency. They apply to entities covered by the Australian Privacy Principles when personal information is used by a computer program to make, or substantially and directly assist, decisions that could significantly affect someone’s rights or interests.
Where applicable, privacy policies must explain the categories of personal information involved and the kinds of decisions concerned.
OAIC explanation:
Writing notes and making decisions
The OAIC distinguishes documenting a human decision from using software to facilitate that decision. It also explains that human review does not automatically put a use outside the new requirements.
Each provider should assess how software is actually used in their workflow.
Detailed OAIC guidance:
How AI Assist fits into your documentation
Scribe’s AI Assist supports your note writing. You remain responsible for checking and approving your notes and making professional decisions.
Scribe’s published AI Use Statement explains that AI assistance is optional and does not replace professional judgement.

What should providers review?
Review the role AI plays in your work and whether your privacy disclosures accurately describe your practices. Assess whether the new requirements apply to your particular uses.
Existing privacy responsibilities continue. Keeping a person involved is important, but should not be treated as an automatic exemption.
The takeaway for Scribe users
You can continue using Sparks Scribe while reviewing your own obligations where applicable. Use AI Assist to support documentation, check your notes carefully, and retain responsibility for professional decisions.
