A shift in a shared house is not the same thing as SIL. They look alike and they are not, and the difference shows up on your invoice.
WHAT CHANGED
The SIL support item has changed.
For supports delivered before 1 July 2026: it stays as 0115, Assistance with daily life tasks in a group or shared living arrangement.
For supports delivered from 1 July 2026: the new item is 0138, Assistance with Supported Independent Living.
The date that counts is the date the support was delivered, not the date you invoice. If you delivered the support in June and you are invoicing now, you use the earlier item.
THE MISTAKE WORTH AVOIDING
Here is the confusion worth clearing up.
SIL is a specific type of support, defined by the living arrangement and by the participant's funding. It is not any shift delivered in a house with more than one person in it.
If you deliver personal care or community access for a participant who happens to live in a shared house, that does not become SIL. You keep using the usual self care or community participation items.
When in doubt, the participant's plan is the answer. SIL appears in a plan as SIL. If it is not there, it is not SIL.
WHY THIS MATTERS
The wrong item on an invoice causes three problems: delayed payment, a rejected invoice, and at worst a payment that has to be repaid later.
None of those are fun when you work on your own and the cash flow is yours.
WHAT IF YOU DO DELIVER SIL?
If you deliver SIL as an unregistered provider and you were delivering before 1 July 2026, there is a deadline: apply for registration by 1 October 2026 to keep delivering SIL after that date.
This does not apply to most independent support workers. But if it applies to you, it is a real deadline and worth confirming your situation with the NDIS Commission.
